Now into its 15th year of existance this year was no different from the rest and Beppe Robiati continued to present ebbf’s course to the students of Economics of the University of Bari, this year reaching over 200 students. The comments, reactions and open appplauses that each lesson received are a testimonial to the impact of this innovative concepts but this year something different happened.
At the end of one of the lessons of the course, following the “usual” round of applauses full of adrenalin and enthusiasm the students came to the speaker’s rostrum and a group of them came to shake my hand and to give me a letter which they asked me to read during my flight back home.
This is an open letter that a group of students wrote and we wish to share it to confirm the eagerness and thirst of these new generations for the innovative messages and business models that ebbf proposes:
“Dear Ing. Robiati,
fascinated by your lectures, we decided to write to share our thoughts. Listening to your presentations we feel honored to see so much of us reflected in your words “young people may create the Future” and feeling very much aligned with your concept that says that we are “citizens of one world.”
In our view the only possible weapon is unity and cooperation and we see in what you say a possible guide in our development that could lead to gain the means and knowledge to enable us to make the best use of and the most effective use of the will power that unites the majority of people who wish to live a future that is better than that of their parents, who intend to make a change to their genealogical tree, because we believe that unlike the past, this is the first generation where children are worse off than their parents and we want to ensure that this is no longer the case!
We think that our ambitions and our desires are clear and we would like to receive some further direction to be able to grow and evolve.
We know it is difficult to address this issue at a time of crisis, but we have something more than the current generation that lets itself be fascinated by consumerism and loses the focus of the true values of life.
Dear Ing. Robiati, we believe that following your ideas it will be possible to really make our project a reality, a project that will allow us to enter into a new scenario, a scenario that will be our scenario. We therefore connect to the words you expressed in your classes and we too are convinced that “we will not die in the place where we were born, we will not work in the place where we graduated and we will not marry our next door neighbor because the earth is but one country and mankind its citizens
We would be honored to receive new indications on how to make sure that our dreams and our ambitions are realized and to ensure that our will can turn into something concrete that will allow us to live our lives
in the right way and maybe one day this will give us the opportunity to go and give lectures in other universities, taking there the same vision that you are sharing with us here.
Thank you for the time you dedicate to us
Sincerely”

GENEVA – Homes belonging to some 50 Baha’i families in a remote village in northern Iran have been demolished as part of a long-running campaign to expel them from the region.
The action occurred in Ivel, Mazandaran, last Thursday, on 22 June 2010, when inhabitants – incited by elements inimical to the Baha’i community – blocked normal access to the village, while allowing trucks and at least four front-end loaders to begin leveling the houses.
Amateur video, shot on mobile telephones and posted by Iranian human rights activists on the Internet, showed what appeared to be several buildings reduced to rubble as well as fiercely burning fires.
The demolitions are the latest development in an ongoing, officially-sanctioned program in the area which has targeted every activity of the Baha’is.
“They’re being forbidden to associate with Muslims, or even offer service to their friends and neighbours,” said Diane Ala’i, representative of the Baha’i International Community to the United Nations in Geneva.
“Even the smallest acts of good will – such as taking flowers to someone who’s sick in hospital or donating gifts to an orphanage – these are being seen as actions against the regime.”
Most of the Baha’i homes in Ivel have been unoccupied since their residents fled after previous incidents of violence or as a result of official displacement. In 2007, for example, six of their houses were torched.
“Baha’is have lived in this area for more than 100 years and it once had a large community,” said Ms. Ala’i. “But in 1983, a few years after the Iranian revolution, at least 30 families from this and neighboring villages were put on buses and expelled.
“Since then, they have tried to seek legal redress to no avail, while returning in the summer to harvest their crops,” she said.
The day after the demolitions took place, a Baha’i man who visited the site with his family to harvest his produce was beaten and insulted by other residents. In the past, those who are trying to drive the Baha’is out have set upon them when they tried to enter the neighborhood to rebuild or renovate their properties.
Persistent government attacks on Baha’is in all the mass media – along with inaction by local officials to protect them – have continued to incite hatred against the Baha’is in the region and throughout Iran, said Ms. Alai.
“This latest action shows the degree to which the authorities have completely failed to live up to their responsibilities to protect the Baha’is and their religious freedom,” she said.
Members of the Baha’i community have made repeated complaints both before and after the latest incident to local government officials, including to the provincial governor in Sari. In every case, knowledge of the demolitions or the motive behind them was denied.
While reports about the latest action began appearing on various Persian-language websites on Friday, the Baha’i International Community was only able to confirm details of the incident today. Latest reports indicate that 90 percent of the Baha’i homes have now been demolished.

Two interviews recorded at North Island Bahá’í Summer School (New Zealand 2010)

A good group of AIESEC Alumni joined the event, for some of them the third time assisting, justifying their presence with statements such as “I need a dose of EBBF inspiration to allow me to continue my inspiration and strengthen my determination in applying my values which is so challenging in my work environment”
Over three days of talks, exchanges, many questions and many answers on the topics of new economic systems, business enterprise, sustainability and development, spirituality in the workplace, the role of women and of feminine wisdom, new energy and new consumption patterns, social entrepreneurship.
The Saturday evening entertainment show saw the participants divided in groups of five performing through some kind of art all that they learned during the event : it was quite extraordinary to see how clearly they had understood the key elements and visions offered during the events and how entertaining they managed to make their shows – it definitely gives us great hope considering the ingenuity and the alignment of values that these young professionals delivered.
